OpenGrid Reference: Great Britain (OSM)
opengrid-reference-models
The GB transmission network as mapped in OpenStreetMap — real substations, real corridors — with every electrical parameter estimated, because the source has none.

412 substations, 455 circuits and 98 transformers, derived from the PyPSA-Eur prebuilt OSM extract (Zenodo 10.5281/zenodo.13358976 v0.3). Topology, coordinates, nominal voltage, circuit count and route geometry come from the source and are real. Series impedance, shunt susceptance and thermal rating do not exist anywhere in the source and are estimated here from voltage class and route length using PyPSA's standard overhead line types; parameters.json records the rule and the inputs behind every one of them, per branch. There is no demand and no generation: this is a network, not a system, and it cannot be dispatched as it stands. Great Britain only — the Northern Ireland island under the same country code is a separate network and is excluded, as are the HVDC interconnectors and internal bootstraps, so north-south transfer capability is understated.

The exclusions are the half you cannot get anywhere else. A dataset that is wrong for your question is worth knowing about before you build on it.

No field-level metadata yet.
No field-level metadata is recorded for this dataset.
Three independent facets
Graded separately and never combined. A dataset can be perfectly current and completely unprovenanced, and one number would hide exactly that.
Provenance
BDerived & Traced
Lineage is recorded and every field states its basis, but they differ (estimated, measured, modeled). The dataset grade is the worst of the per-field grades: an average would let well-traced fields hide one that is not, and the user who needs that one is exactly who this facet is for.
Documentation
BPartially documented
5 of 6 fields are fully documented, 6 carry a definition. 1 lack a unit.
Currency & maintenance
–Not yet assessed
No update cadence is recorded, so there is nothing to be past due against. Absent means not captured, not that the dataset has no cadence.
Not the same as a poor grade. Provenance and documentation are graded from field-level metadata, which this record does not carry yet.
Visible without signing in, deliberately: an evaluator comparing catalogs should not have to register first.
