PyPSA-Eur weather cutouts

pypsa

Pre-cut ERA5 weather slices covering Europe, packaged for direct use by atlite in PyPSA-Eur workflows.

Before you use this

  • Derived from ERA5. Pairing these cutouts with any other ERA5-derived product produces correlated inputs, and the apparent agreement between them is partly ERA5 agreeing with itself.

Regional extracts of ERA5 prepared as atlite cutouts, so a PyPSA-Eur run does not have to download and subset the reanalysis itself. The cutouts carry wind speed, irradiance, temperature and runoff on the ERA5 grid, restricted to the European domain and to the years the workflow needs. Because they are extracts rather than a re-simulation, every value traces directly to ERA5 — which is what makes this dataset and any other ERA5-derived product correlated rather than independent.
